Sudoku

I have been seeing books of these puzzles turning up in every grocery store etc, but until recently, never bothered to try it out. I have taken quite a liking to it, although I am not particularly good at it as yet. With no interest in clogging up our house with yet more books, I have been checking out the various online versions to varying levels of satisfaction.

My favourite site? Simply Sudoku which is nice and plain, allowing you to concentrate on the damn numbers. It doesn’t try and make you buy a full, downloadable version or register or any of that crap. You just pick a skill level and have at it.

My thanks to Mathew for putting it together.

Bowling

Using an old and rather heavy ball that we rescued from an old barn, I have been occasionally visiting a local bowling alley of late with friends. Last night we played a few games before the serious drinking started and I got me a new record high score of 181. I have no idea how this compares to the average player’s scores and Google has been of no help, but I was pretty pleased to have such a big number on the screen at the alley!

More Penguin bashing

This time you are needed to beat the poor Penguin around Africa using a Flamingo and doing your best to avoid the Elephants, Giraffes, snakes and trees. Sometimes they can be of help though.
Head on over to YetiSports to see a Penguin get bitten and thrown by a Giraffe, if your aim is good enough!
Oh, watch out for the Vultures!
My best?
5386 putting me at #540 on the top 1000 list! At least for now….....

Update. As of June 26th my position has dropped to #929! These people get good real fast and I think I’ll now retire from serious competition!

Say good grief with me!

Earlier times

I picked up a copy of ‘Atari – 80 classic games in one’ yesterday and have been transported back to earlier times. Robin, on hearing all the strange old sounds, has already started planning for a new answer phone message. At around 20 cents a game it was hard to resist and it sure is good to be playing Asteroids again, not one of the newer clones, the original one that I always liked best. I even found it strangely satisfying to beat the computer at a game of Pong!
Looking at the complexity of games these days, it is strange to think how we were all captivated by these more simplistic examples from only 25 years ago (or thereabouts). Has modern gaming taken a wrong turn? After all this time these old games are extremely playable. There is little to learn about them, no complicated keyboard shortcuts to learn, just a couple of buttons and a heap of loud beeps to eat up your time.
I’d write more but I have a little spaceship to save from some bloody great rocks and damn those small UFOs!

You play?
