Just in case anything strange shows up while you are viewing this site…......stranger than normal at least, it is due to the fact that I have installed a tester of the forthcoming Textpattern release to help look for possible problems. If you do notice something weird, please leave me a comment about it and, if it isn’t my fuck-up, I’ll pass on the info’ to the developers.
Weirdness?I am sorry to disrupt anyones favorites if they had links to my photos/graphics but what the hell. I came to realise that the folder structure did not suit my future requirements. Extra categories have been added and some photos moved around. To make it all worthwhile there have been a couple of dozen extra photos added. Everything should stay calm for a while.
This updating has become an easier prospect thanks to Noel and his Photostack software. It is much more simplified than Singapore , allowing me to fuck about with stuff much more easily. As soon as a full public release happens, I’ll do some work with the templates. Until then you’ll have to deal with the default look that comes with it.
I have nothing against Singapore and would highly recommend it to everybody, the new version of Photostack just meets my needs better.
Is there anybody out there? [3]I watched as the hype over Mint reared it’s head and then calmed down again. While it was going on I had a look around to see what the competition had to offer. Much to my surprise, nothing seemed to have the ease of installation and use, so I gave it a try. Guess what? I kinda like it, much to my surprise.
What have I learnt from it so far?
Only 8% of my visitors run their monitors at 800×600.
Internet Explorer is used by 66% with Firefox running at 25%.
Windows takes 89%, Mac 9% and Linux 2%.
Most visitors come via Google with the other search engines trailing way behind.
Links on the Textdrive forum, Textpattern forum and Textpattern Magazine all bring in a scattering of visitors.
Friends sites do well, with Luc leading, trailed my Gordon and Gavin coming close behind.
These are my visitors languages in order of popularity:
Quite how Turkish ranks so high is quite frankly beyond me!
Last, but not least, and also accounting for many of the non-English speaking visitors, the most popular search term used that brings me visitors is:
‘penguin bashing’
You could knock me down with a feather, what the?
These people come looking for the Yetisports games that I have mentioned once or twice and account for nearly 30% of my visitors! All I can say to this revelation is – Fucking Hell!
Lastly, I find that many search-victims arrive due to Google et al not comprehending what they index. The following should illustrate that:
Searched – thunder mountain choppers.
Found – A mention of a mountain visited during a trip to a motorcyle event.
Searched – rules “alien numbers” game.
Found – A piece regarding a game I designed using Basic on a Sinclair Spectrum some decades back.
Searched – anthony czak.
Found – An article about the destrution of original Elvis Presley master tapes that mentions the historian Jim Czak.
And finally, my favourite of all the search terms that have brought me visitors:
Searched – diddly umptious.
Found – Me praising my Wife’s earliest attempt at cooking me a curry! What on Earth could they have truly been searching for?
Having seen very little in the way of development, for many months, on Singapore, the software running the photo galleries on this site, I am now running a replacement. I have copied the entire collection across to this beta version of the forthcoming Photostack 3. All the links remain the sameI haven’t began to work on the templates yet because I am considering a complete redesign of this site, much like Robin but, of course, very different.
Interestingly, Noel Jackson, the guy behind Photostack, decided to base this new version on Singapore, which, interestingly, is about to be updated, according to the first sign of life on the site for many months.
So it is farewell to Singapore, and hello to Photostack!
Completely unrelated but possibly interesting if only for the search engine refers it will generate: Last night our beloved Borderline Collie, Echo, puked on our bed at 3 AM! It has been a day…..
Your thoughts, as ever, are always welcome.
Say something snappy! As of this last weekend, Textpattern is officially in it’s first public release. It is labelled 4.0 rather than the more normal and boring 1.0 but we can thank our lucky stars that it wasn’t given a stupid name, you know, like a type of cat!
Thankfully upgrading has been so slick and easy that without this post you would never know. I actually did the upgrade while getting ready to go out for the day. It took less time than lacing my boots for work!
Gonna try it?
